73 immigrants intercepted off Motril

The travellers were found by coastguards in a bank of mist.

A small patera boat with 73 immigrants on board, including 21 women and five children was intercepted by the authorities on Friday close to the coast off Motril.

A helicopter first spotted the Sub-Saharan immigrants at 1pm when some 18 miles offshore and the coastguard finally intercepted the boat when surrounded in a bank of mist.

Only one of the travellers was suffering from hypothermia, and treated on arrival in the port at Motril.
